A Case of the Uncomfortables
Last night, I took The Squeaker out of her car seat and noticed she was warm; dare I say, hot. P.Pie thought it was because she was heavily bundled.
I had my doubts, but who wins an argument with mom?
So I took Squeak to her room, changed her diaper and got her into her pjs. The whole process, including toes tickles and missed snaps, took about 10 minutes.
Squeak was still VERY warm to the touch.
Out comes the thermometer. Fortunately, my sister Tintin gave us an ear thermometer that gives the temperature in less than 30 seconds.
And my fears were confirmed – 100.8°.
I know it’s not “go-to-the-emergency-room” high. It’s not even “call-the-doctor” high. Still, it’s her first true fever and nerve wracking for us.
Long post short, we gave her Baby Tylenol which helped the fever. A little. Her sleep was fitful with P.Pie and I taking turns consoling her every 45 minutes or so.
Just before 4am I picked her up, wrapped us both in a blanket and sat down in the recliner and patted her rhythmically on the back until 5:30.
P.Pie took over and I got ready for work.
Fast forward to this evening – P.Pie isn’t feeling well…
I’m popping zinc and vitamin c like there’s no tomorrow.

Is there a tooth about to make its debut?
I was thinking the same thing. Some pediatricians say kids don't have fevers when teething, but Stinker Bell always did. I hope that's all Squeak's is, too.
With Clare in daycare from four months, we went through a lot of those. The first sicknesses are the toughest because you really don't know what to do. I think we called the doctor once for 100.
Well if P.Pie isn't feeling so hot I'd think it's a virus going around...wise to try prevention measures on yourself.
By the way, your BUMPO seat is under recall. Kids falling out have caused 3 skull fractures...should not be used on counter tops, chairs, etc. Contact manufacturer.
PS: Love reading blog & Squeaker is a real QT Pie!
